fashion majors color and look at magazines all day.

NOTTT. You know how in college everybody has that one or two classes that is absolutely essential to whether or not you graduate? well I am in part two of my class and I am kicking ass and taking names in it! It is Textiles II and it is the heart and soul of fashion merchandising. In textiles I we learned the basics of fabric construction, fabric care, fabric names, we looked in microscopes to see what the fabric is made up of. You can hand me any piece of fabric and I can burn it and by the smell it gives off I can tell you if it is thermoplastic (polyester, nylon, etc..), natural (wool, angora, etc..) or if its a cotton, linen, etc. It is very fun. So i passed that class and now I am in Tetiles II which is basicallly fabric testing. UMES has the second best textiles lab in the United States and I feel so fortunate to be able to use it. We do the same testing on fabric that they do to test astronaut suits. There is so much to this class and I never thought clothing and textiles were so complex. Just think. Fashion merchandising literally deals with everything tangible. The carpet we walk on, sofas we sit on, clothes we wear, drapes hanging in our living room, interior of our cars, the clothes that protect firefighters, EVERYTHING.

Anyhow, I say all this to say...I screwed myself. I went into college picking fashion because I enjoy it and I thought it would be EASY. Boy was I kidding myself. Atleast I have grown a tremendous amount of respect for the industry and myself.

CIAO.
