my visit to The Merry Sherwood.

May 26, 2010

Well it was finally the day to visit Merry Sherwood! I had my bridal planning book in hand, mom had her notepad and pencil to jot things down, and Alex was wearing clothes without any holes or stains. We were READY. As we drove up and around the driveway to park on the side of Merry Sherwood I was trying to imagine what my guests would think. I myself, who had already been there before, was once again impressed and reminded why this place was suggested to Alex and I in the first place.

We walked through the quaint little gardens, that had just been watered, and along the brick path and knocked on the front door. An attractive young spunky blonde woman welcomed us like she had known us for years. She let us in and told us a brief history of the Merry Sherwood. She told us that originally the house was built for a bride by the fiance to impress the brides family. I thought that was very cute in itself.

The caretaker gave us a tour of the entire house and showed us where the bridesmaids and I would get ready. Girls, this room is something to see. It is called the ballroom and it is quite beautiful. I have a feeling the photographer will want to take plenty of pictures of us primping in there. The guys would get dressed and ready in the library.

She also showed us a few locations where previous couples have gotten married but one spot really just screamed JAMIE. The actual spot for the ceremony would take place in this garden to the right of the house. It is surrounded by flower beds, enormous trees, and a few statues. i would make my grand entrance by coming out of the front door of the house around the wrap around porch and down the steps leading to the garden. It is a very dramatic entrance. I was trying to picture the entire bridal party and Alex standing up there and I was pretty certain this was the place where we should get married.

After the ceremony the guests would walk to the other side of the yard where a huge tent will be set up and where the reception can take place.

Well I hope I painted a lovely picture of what to expect for all of you that haven't seen it before. I hope you find it as beautiful as Alex, Mom and I did!
